Boswell Farm for nostalgic holidays, indulgent relaxation and extraordinary memories

Shippen Cottage

sleeps upto 4*

£350 - 1242per wk

Shippen Cottage was built in the 1850s as a purpose built shippen, or cowshed, where the cows would have all been milked by hand.

Now a charming holiday cottage with a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, as well as additional raised dining area off a very spacious sitting room. Patio doors take you from the sitting room into the enclosed private garden, which adjoins pasture and beyond, so is very peaceful.

Upstairs the cottage has two bedrooms - one double and one twin - and a family bathroom.

What would we do and what would we have done without this haven? Thank you again for its elegance and comfort. The garden has been a real joy and so have the views.

Clare & Neil, Gloucestershire

The farm is very nice, I like it a lot. The house is very beautiful and cosy. I have past a very good time in Boswell Farm. If we come back to England the next year, I want to come back here.

Ida (age 8) - Spain

What a perfect setting for a totally relaxing holiday. Lovely cottage and beautiful gardens. The walks are wonderful, just wish we could stay another week. Thank you.

Ian & Pauline, Guernsey

We enjoyed the Shippen Cottage - well equipped, quiet and the little garden from where we saw squirrels and pheasants. Local walking was most enjoyable - to Harcombe, Sidbury and surrounds, and dear old Sidmouth, the cliffs and the Byes.

Chris & John - Australia

Cottage just as we remembered, cream tea & goodies most welcome after a long drive. Hamish the Westie well walked around the farm, thank you for a lovely week.

Ian & Sarah, Wiltshire

Another wonderfully relaxing break at Boswell. We loved the mown pathways in the meadows for walks with the dogs. Thank you as always for sharing your idyllic corner of Devon with us.

Long weekend break to celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary. Beautiful cottage and peaceful setting. Enjoyed walking Molly, our dog, around the meadows.

Splendid 14 days! Our children appreciated the playground and the garden, our dog loved the fields and to stroll around and we enjoyed the natural atmosphere, the calming green and the pretty flowers everywhere to be seen Want to come back again! Thanks very much

Fabulous weather and fabulous cottage. Minnie the dog enjoyed the garden and we loved watching the robins. Hopefully will be back next year.

The Websters October 2015

A truly enjoyable first stay in this idyllic setting. Shippen cottage is perfect and exceeded our expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends. The almost tropical weather was indeed a bonus! Love Boswell, love the area, especially Sidmouth and love the donkeys! Thank you for making this possible for us to enjoy. See you again soon!

Sue and Chris

Boswell Farm is spread over 45 acres of pasture, arable land and woodland with the delightful Snod Brook running through its heart.

There is a footpath, with rests, that will take you right around the farm - alongside the brook, over bridges, and through the fields with spectacular views of the Sweetcombe and Sid Valleys.

You might see kingfishers, dragonflies, buzzards, foxes, and other Devon wildlife. Amongst the trees and flowers are ancient oaks, willows, and a whole host of delicate wild flowers.

The tennis court has recently been resurfaced to a very high standard, so for practising your game whilst on holiday Boswell Farm is definitely the place to come.

Tennis racquets are available should you require them.

....and remember, the sea is only 2 miles away if you want to take a refreshing dip afterwards!

A recent and very welcome addition at Boswell has been a small adventure playground for children, making Boswell farm an even more delightful place for them to explore and make wonderful and exciting holiday memories.

Boswell has its own small, serene, natural lake, which is maintained as a natural sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife. It is also well stocked for coarse fishing - a peaceful place to enjoy the beauty of nature and fishing.

There are wooden benches if you just want to take in the calm of the water on a warm Devon evening.

It is the perfect place for an afternoon sitting on the shady bank with a fishing rod or a picnic basket - whichever takes your fancy!

If you should prefer and are an experienced angler, there is even fishing available for brown trout in the Snod Brook which runs right though Boswell Farm.

(We do require the use of barbless hooks and for any fish that are caught to be returned)

Regular Pilates classes are held from the Old Kennels Studios at Boswell Farm.

As a qualified Pilates instructor, Linda Macaulay can advise you on the right class to attend if you so wish. She can also offer one to one sessions, for both beginners and more advanced students, and if required can tailor a complete and personal programme.
